Announcement from SCPFA State Festival Chairman

The Executive Board of the South Carolina Piano Festival Association trusts that you and your students are well and continuing to progress through these unprecedented times due ti the Covid-19 global pandemic.

SCPFA exists to offer meaningful opportunities for the educational and artistic growth of her participants and to administer these offerings with the highest standards of excellence.

The executive board has met many times since the onset of Covid-19 to review all options in hopes of conducting festival auditions in the spring of 2021. The closings and safety restrictions placed for the protection and well-being of all have eliminated any consideration for preparing in-[person spring auditions.

With a strong desire to offer meaningful alternative to in-person auditions, extensive research began to explore the possibility of virtual auditions. This study identified significant copyright restrictions surrounding printed and recorded music, particularly as they relate to independent organizations like SCPFA. With respect for copyright laws and a commitment to adhere to them fully, the executive board regrets to announce that at this time, plans for spring 2021 festival auditions have been cancelled. We are grateful that the Walter B. Roberts Scholarship Competition, for high school seniors who meet eligibility requirements, will be offered in the spring of 2021. (Guidelines for this competition can be found in the Walter B. Roberts page.)

South Carolina Piano Festival Association has joyfully served hundreds a, indeed thousands, of young musicians and teachers for many years. With appreciation for your understanding and support of the our organization, the executive board remains devoted to our members, heir students and the performing arts community. We sincerely hope to resume all festival offerings we have long enjoyed in the near future. Your questions are always welcomed.

Sincerely,

Ann B. Wilson, DMA
